Uganda national golf team captain Joseph Cwinya-ai maintained his lead at the summit of the 2024 Kabaka Coronation anniversary golf tournament standings at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club, Kitante – Kampala.
After two rounds, Cwinya-ai is 9-under with a total gross of 135 following 36 holes action of the gross category.
Cwinya-ai scored 5-under-67 during the opening round and 4-under-68 in round two.
Two golfers Ibrahim Bagalana and Elton Thembo, also national team golfers are jointly tied on 144.
Joseph Kasozi is fourth-placed after scoring 75 in round one and 73 in round two.
The trio of Morris Ashaba, Titus Okwong and Micheal Tumusiime are jointly tied in fifth place with 150 gross apiece.
For the ladies, Peace Kabasweka is the joint leader after 36 holes with 150 gross.
After a 6-over-78 score for round one, Kabasweka is all square as round one leader Judith Komugisha as she scored level par.
Both Kabasweka and Komugisha are jointly tied on 150 apiece.
Meron Kyomugisha (156), Harriet Kitaka (170) and Lillian Koowe (171) are in the respective top five positions.
Left-hander Gloria Mbaguta is sixth with 173, Resty Nalutaaya follows with 174 and Robinah Angom (177) is 8th.
The third and final round for the gross players will be held on Friday, 26th July 2024 ahead of the grand finale on Saturday where over 100 golfers are expected.
The tournament is in celebration of the 31st Coronation Anniversary of the King of Buganda Kingdom His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
This tournament also had the caddies’ event that was won by Brunce Gomushabe and Robinah Angom.
