4th T20 Match | Uganda U-19 Girls v Tanzania U-19 Girls

  • Tanzania 102/7
  • Uganda 74 all out
  • Tanzania won by 28 runs

The visitors Tanzania U-19 girls picked up their first win of the series winning the fourth T20 match by 28 runs.

Uganda has been batting first in the previous three games but decided to take the ball first in the fourth game as they continue to fine-test their combinations ahead of the qualifiers.

Tanzania got stuck in when asked to bat first with the Captain Jenipher Kimaro promoting herself up the order and that brought fortunes for her side, she managed to score 45 the highest individual score of the series.

She combined with Mwanaidi Athumani (27) to open on an opening stand of 73 before the first wicket fell in the 16th over. Tanzania lost seven wickets for just 29 runs in the last four overs. The running between the wickets is something that still haunts Tanzania as they construct their innings.

Mitchel Ariago (3/18) was the pick of the bowlers with a worthy mention of a spectacular catch taken by Asumin Akurut at long on to get rid of the dangerous Agnes Qwele. Uganda was very casual in the field putting down chances and also letting a couple of easy balls go through their bodies.

In the run chase, Patricia Timong (14) and Jimia Mohammad (8) had their struggles finding the gaps and clean connections. Mohammad was the first wicket to fall and nothing was able to hold throughout the whole innings.

Naomi Amongin (11) and Malisa Ariokot (10) got into double figures but none was impactful on the result as Uganda ran out of resources with 28 runs still required for victory.

The trend continues in the series with the team that bats first emerging as the victor, however, the result is a lesson for Uganda in terms of chasing down totals.

The two sides will play the final game of the series tomorrow morning before the visitors return home.

The sides are preparing for the U-19 World Cup Qualifiers that will be in Kigali Rwanda next month.
