In a closely contested National Basketball League match at YMCA Court, Kampala Rockets achieved a hard-fought victory over City Oilers, winning 53-50.
This loss marked the fifth defeat for the City Oilers this season, placing them ninth in the 12-team standings.
Throughout the campaign, the City Oilers have faced defeats at the hands of Namuwongo Blazers, JT Jaguars, KCA Panthers, JKL Dolphins, and now, Kampala Rockets.
The game began with Puati Ozias Kikomba’s hook shot, allowing Kampala Rockets to take a narrow two-point lead (14-12) at the end of the first quarter.
The Rockets strengthened their position by limiting the City Oilers to just eight points in the second quarter, which helped them extend their lead to 10 points (30-20) at halftime.
After the break, the City Oilers improved their game and managed to take a one-point lead (41-40) heading into the final quarter.
However, with only two seconds remaining on the clock, they had a chance to tie the game, but Ben Komakech’s long-range shot missed the mark.
Juf Mpiya led the Rockets with a strong performance, contributing 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Puati Ozias Kikomba added 12 points and 16 rebounds, both securing double-doubles.
Only Edgar Munaaba also achieved a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Oilers.
