Football continues to grow in the Kitara region. After the amazing show staged by Kitara FC, there is a semblance of fresh confidence and belief in the natives of this particular vicinity.

Founded in 2021, St George attained promotion to the Kitara Regional League. With several plans and ambitions, the team management hopes to gradually grow into a big club that represents the region excellently.

Talking to Kawowo Sports, the team’s founder, Rogers Ndahura, revealed that the team was created as a tool to change society by promoting local talents but also extending the beautiful game to the natives.

“The thought of starting a team was got during the COVID-19 pandemic. I realised that we have a lot of good football talents in Masindi that can be nurtured into fine stars,” he stated.

“We also have a lot of young boys that if groomed can attain education and also attain a future through sports. Instead of getting spoilt from the streets of Masind, I think this team will be a great tool to groom and instil discipline in the younger generation,” he added.

Ndahura adds that the team started with competition in a local tournament, but the dream is now getting clearer since they will be taking part in the Kitara Regional League next season.

“We started by participating in locally organised tournaments like the Easter Cup, Christmas Cu, as well as the Eid Cups. We later joined the fifth division of Masindi District, where we emerged as champion, thus attaining promotion into the fourth division.”

“It’s not been a smooth journey, but we hope to keep chasing our dream. This year, we took part in the prestigious 50th Uganda Cup. We were invited by Hoima to play the Uganda Cup qualifier, as one of the fourth and fifth division clu, s and we managed to go past several good teams before beating Doves in the finals.”

“We qualified for the round of the 64 of Uganda Cup and we were drawn against Police FC (We lost against Police FC in penalty shootouts). In our fourth division, we played 10 games, won seven, drew one and lost two games and we came out as champions.”

The club founder promised that the biggest crop of players in the team would be kept to allow continuity of the team. In the same breath, the team looks forward to collecting resources from the community as they continue to spread their wings.
