Match Summary: Uganda W v Zimbabwe W

  • Uganda 165/2
  • Zimbabwe 90 all out
  • Uganda won by 75 runs

Victoria Pearls got their batting act together in an impressive display that saw them post a competitive total of 165/2 against Zimbabwe in their 20 overs.

Immaculate Nakisuyi inspired the batting with her first half century of the tournament. Her well-crafted 52 off 42 balls laid a foundation for Proscovia Alako to express herself with a counter-attacking 62 off 41 balls that helped Uganda finish on 165/2.

The batting unit for the Victoria Pearls finally coming together after a lot of soul-searching to post a strong total against a strong opponent.

In the run chase, Sarah Walaza picked the big wicket of Kelis Ndlovu on the first ball of the second innings and that immediately took a big chunk out of the Zimbabwe batting. Walaza followed it up with another in the same over to leave the Southern Africans railing at 0/2 in the first over.

Uganda made sure of the result with more quick wickets and at 29/5, the writing was on the wall as the Ugandans managed the rest of the game well to close it out by the 16th over. Debutants Patricia Timong and Immaculate Nandera were given a chance to bowl to some good batters and were rewarded with two wickets each in their bowling quota of four overs.

The Victoria Pearls remain unbeaten with a flawless record of three out of three and are second on the table. They have the same number of points as Rwanda but the hosts have a better net run rate.

The girls will take a break tomorrow (Sunday) and will be back in action on Monday.
