Olila High School clinched its fourth Girls Schools cricket Week title, defeating Light SS by five wickets.
The school won the tournament unbeaten, winning all nine games in Gulu City.
The favourites managed to top their Group B and breezed past Masaka SS in the semifinals, winning by 10 wickets and in a repeat of the 2024 final against defending champions Light SS, led by Victoria Pearls star Asumin Akurut, Olila High was too dominant.
Light SS barely made the final after being pushed by the home side Sacred Heart SS in the semifinal. The defending champions held their nerve to clinch a two-run win in a game that kept everyone on their toes. Sacred Heart failed at the semifinal stage for the second year in a row, but with lots of progress.
However, Light SS was not good enough to defend their title. Their struggles with the bat were capitalized on by Olila High School who made sure they restricted them to a small total so that their superior bowling doesn’t earn them a second title.
Olila High School picked up their fourth title which takes them level with Gayaza High School.
Jinja SS is still in a league of its own with eight titles.
The annual event that attracted sixteen schools was hosted by Gulu City for the first time, and five different venues hosted the week-long tournament.
