The StarTimes Uganda Premier League edges closer to conclusion with match day twenty-eight offering several talking points but here are the four as picked by Ismael Kiyonga

BUL delays Vipers title celebration with late goal

Table leaders Vipers went to the East to face Bul aware that victory would guarantee them a 7th title with more two rounds to play.

However, that didn’t happen as Reagan Kalyowa scored with literally the last kick of the game to give the self-proclaimed ‘Eastern Giants’ a deserved victory.

That, coupled with NEC’s 5-1-win triumph over relegated Soltilo Bright Stars, it put Vipers toast on hold to at least the next match day setting up an anticipated thriller against Kitara at Royal Park Butema on Wednesday.

BUL are now unbeaten in 16 league matches and remain the only unbeaten side in the second round so far.

Kitara ends goal drought with Tito goal

Before their goal against Maroons, Kitara had gone five successive league matches without scoring.

Their only goal in the last matches came in a 2-1 defeat to NEC at Lugogo and in seven matches in all competitions, they had only found the back of the net once.

Titus Ssematimba winner over Maroons will be a confidence booster ahead of crucial back-to-back matches against Vipers in the league and Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Relegation battle closed after Wakiso Giants confirmed drop

With two rounds to go, the three teams to play in the Fufa Big League next season are now confirmed after Wakiso Giants joined Soltilo Bright Stars and Mbale Heroes who were relegated earlier.

The Purple Sharks lost 5-0 to KCCA at Lugogo and even if they didn’t, Mbarara City beat Lugazi 1-0 to confirm stay.

Goals galore

It was a match day packed with goals. 26 goals were scored in 8 matches with 22 on Saturday and four on Sunday as SC Villa beat Police 3-1 at Kavumba.

Shockingly, six sides were shutout with the only winners failing to keep a clean sheet being Villa and NEC.

The NEC – Stars game had the most goals, 6 while Kitara, Mbarara City and BUL won with a just single goal.

URA, NEC and KCCA scored five goals each on the day and there was no goalless fixture.
