
At a time Uganda is seeking to establish self among the continental heavy-weights of football, there are swift plans undertaken by the football governing body, FUFA to ensure development of raw talent and their continuity.
Rich grass-root programs as academies, schools of excellence, competitions in primary, secondary, universities and other tertiary institutions are some of the deliberate pathways being emphasized.
“USSSA is here to develop mass-sports as we grow talents that are later tapped by clubs and national teams” Justus Mugisha, president of USSSA and the vice president of Federation of Uganda Football Associations notes.


Time immemorial, the secondary schools’ football program has been held annually in Uganda, across the entire country.
The qualification process is grueling as it commences from the districts, through to zones, regions and at the national base.
This year’s nationals for boys are in Ngora district, North East of the country with 64 schools in contention.
Another cluster of competition for girls’ football is also happening in Bukedea district.
That said, over 2200 players are in action for these two weeks.
The fruits are promising, with the basic skills of the game as positioning, ball control, passing, dribbling, off the ball movement, heading, shooting and scoring evident.

Besides the fancy dribbles, scoring goals is the end-product that most football lovers cherish.
Special football coaches, scouts and mere spectators have been so far treated to a fiesta with goals arriving in all fashions; simple tap-ins, bullet shots, headers, acrobatic volleys, back-heels finishes, set pieces (penalties, direct and in-direct free-kicks), melees and yes; own-goals.

Buddo Secondary School still holds the most goals scored in a singe fixture during their 14-1 win over Chemwania High School.
Two Masaka zone based schools; Blessed Sacrament Kimanya and Masaka Secondary School both won with an identical 8-0 scoreline.

Kampala zone champions Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga humbled Devine College Buyaga 5-0 with another Kampala school, Kibuli SS also smiling 4-0 past St Geralds Secondary School Rukungiri.
Kibuli SS had opened up with a slim 1-0 win past Wakiso zone representative GreenLight Islamic when Abdul-rahim Wasswa scored the all-important goal.
Jinja Comprehensive School convincingly beat Lubongi Army Secondary School 5-0.
Luweero zone’s MUMSA High School beat former winners St Leo’s College Kyegobe 4-0.
Reigning champions St Julian High School booked their berth at the round of 32 with their second victory in the championship, triumphing 2-1 over Labira Girls Secondary School.
Multiple times champion St Mary’s Kitende choked Bugisu High School 4-0 with the goals coming from Santos Agok, Arafaat Nkoola, Jahid Mwondha and a late penalty by Dennis Kisiriko.
Slim wins and stalemates:
A couple of narrow victories have been also recorded; manifesting the might of mean defences and excellent goalkeeping.
Notre Dame High School from Masaka zone beat Ssaku secondary school 1-0.
This is the same scoreline that last year’s losing finalists Amus College School had over Luwero Secondary School.
Bukedea Comprehensive School, a star studded side edges Wagwa High School 1-0.
Teso Progressive-TEPA shared the spoils with Wisdom High 1-all.
Match day three continues on Thursday, 8th May 2025, the same day the tournament will be officially opened by officials from the central Government, Ministry of Education and Sports, Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Associations (USSSA) and local leaders in the Teso region.
