Two-time Africa rally champion Karan Patel revealed that he is hungry for more titles as he aims at his first ARC points this weekend.

Karan heads to Western Uganda for the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally slated for May 9-11. It is the second round event of the African Rally Championship.

The Kenyan who missed out on ARC points in this home event, the Safari Rally last March, is looking at the Ugandan round to ignite his fight for the next title.

Karan and his co-driver Taussef Khan are the current ARC champions after winning the title back-to-back.

“I am still hungry for titles. I will keep going for titles until I can no longer push,” said Karan.

“We have good sponsors and that is a really important fact and a big thing for us.  So for as long as we can, we shall continue winning for my sponsors and family who are the other sponsors,” he added.

The Kenyan crew are also the reigning Pearl Rally winners and remains the crew to beat for this year’s victory.

“My strategy is always to aim for the best. I saw a big entry list. I don’t know yet whether I will be pushing to the maximum until I get to understand the drivers who will be in the race.”

“After a few stages, I will know whether I need to push or just maintain a clean race,” said Karan.

Karan returns with the Skoda Fabia Rally2 that has a new engine fitted after the Safari Rally.

Carl Tundo and Jeremiah Wahome top the ARC leaderboard in first and second place respectively. The two will be a no-show in the Pearl Rally.

Samman Vohra is third with 36 points, only one point ahead of Uganda’s Yasin Nasser who sits fourth.

The Pearl of Africa rally will run for three days, starting with the qualifying stage and shakedown on 8 May.

Rally will start proper on Friday with three stages, including a super special stage at the Rukaari Resort.
