Recounting Bright Stars 12-year journey at the top

Soltilo Bright Stars officially got relegated from the Uganda Premier League on 6th May 2025, bringing the curtains down to their twelve-year journey in top-flight football.

In this Article, Kawowo Sports revisits some of the key highlights of the club’s story at the top.

18th April 2013 – Beat Wandegeya FC 1-0 to top Rwenzori Group on 38 points. Goal scored by Akram Kakembo. The team was under the guidance of coach John Kayanja.

29th June 2013 – Appointed Livingstone Mbabazi as head coach, replacing John Kayanja.

23rd August 2013 – First Uganda Premier League game against SC Victoria University. Ended in a 1-0 loss. Goal scored by Manko Kaweesa.

30th August 2013 – First win in UPL. 1-0 against fellow newcomers CRO FC. Goal scored by Hussein Mayanja.

13th September 2013 – First UPL home win. 1-0 against Kira Young, goal scored by Antony Bongole.

First season– Ended the first season in 12th place on 29 points, winning 5, drawing 14 and losing 11.

8th July 2014 – Bright Stars FC sacked Livingstone Mbabazi.

3rd November 2014 – Fred Kajoba (RIP) appointed new head coach at the club.

29th June 2016 – Captain Bernard Muwanga and defender Joseph Nsubuga join SC Villa. Muwanga had been at Bright Stars since 2007 as a young boy.

11th September 2017 – Bright Stars and former Japanese footballer Keisuke Honda, through his sports company Honda Estilo and sister branch Soltilo Uganda Limited, announced a long-term partnership.

4th May 2019 – Bright Stars register their biggest win in the League, obliterating Paidha Black Angels 6-1 on the final day of the season. Nelson Ssenkatuka scored five and James Angu added the other goal.

25th May 2019 – Bright Stars reach the Uganda Cup final but lose to Proline at Masaka Recreation Ground.

2018/19 Season– Best campaign for Bright Stars who finished 8th on the League table with 41 points, the highest tally in the club’s history.

14th July 2019 – Bright Stars and Coach Fred Kajoba (RIP) part ways.

16th September 2020 – FUFA allows the team to change name from Bright Stars to Soltilo Bright Stars FC.

6th May 2025 – Relegated from the Uganda Premier League for the first time.
