The race for semifinal places continues to heat up at the annual Girls Schools Cricket Week in Gulu City, and after three days of action, the cream is starting to separate from the rest.
On a day when the weather was kind to the competition, Masaka SS found good form to go top in Group A ahead of other favourites Jinja SS and defending champions Light SS.
Defending champions Light SS laboured to beat Ndejje SS, winning by two wickets but with Net Run Rate a big factor in deciding the top two sides, they would have preferred a big win. Ndejje SS and St James SS are the only two teams yet to pick up a win in the tournament in Group A.
Olila High School remain on course to win their fourth title and remains unbeaten with five out of five and had a statement win against St John’s SS Mukono. The superstar power of Olila High School that included Malisa Ariokot, Lorna Anyait, Immaculate Nandera and Akurut Asumin was too much for Irene Mutoni and Gringlish Nabulime of St John’s Mukono to cope with. A big win for Olila High keeps them firmly at the top of the table.
Sacred Heart SS sit in second place with the chasing pack led by Masindi SS and St John’s SS Mukono. Gayaza High School, Gulu High School and Good Heart SS are the only sides not to win a game in the group.
Olila High School should comfortably win Group B and the race for second place will be interesting but Group A remains wide open with the defending champions struggling to catch up with their other rivals. Masaka SS and Jinja SS have an interest in those knock-out positions and once they played to a draw due to the weather that meant they had cancelled each other out.
The sixteen teams are placed in two groups with the top two sides qualifying for the semifinals.
