St Noa Girls Secondary School secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over South Africa in the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship on Wednesday.
Grace Kawino was the day’s hero, netting the decisive goal to earn maximum points for Uganda’s representatives.
The match was evenly contested from the outset, with both teams opting to build up play methodically from the back.
Despite the end-to-end action, the first half lasting twenty minutes ended goalless as both sides continued to press for an opener.
In the 22nd minute, St Noa made their first substitution, with Kawino coming on for Annastanzia Mbeiza.
Just one minute later, Kawino made an immediate impact, breaking the deadlock with a well-taken finish to put St Noa in control.
Lydia Namaseruka nearly doubled the lead from a corner kick, but the South African goalkeeper produced a fine save to keep her side in the game.
The result marked a strong start for St Noa Girls as they kicked off their campaign on a high note with an important victory.
