2024-2025 Stanbic Uganda (Quarter-final 4):

  • Police 0 (0) – 0(3) Kataka

Kataka Football Club, a FUFA Big League entity has qualified to the semi-finals of the 51st Stanbic Uganda Cup.

The Mbale based side made the grade to the last four stage at the expense of Police Football Club.

The quarter final contest was determined in the post-match penalties with Kataka winning 3-0.

Normal time of this aggressive contest had ended goal-less with the additional 30 extra time also failing to find a clear cut winner.

Police created the better scoring opportunities in normal time with the best moment falling to Dennis Kalanzi.

Kalanzi watched in disbelief when he connected to Emmanuel Mugume’s inviting cross with a header but the effort hit the lower post.

In the dramatic shoot-out, all Police’s shots hit the upper cross bar with skipper Tonny Kiwalazi, Gaddafi “Augustine” Kacancu and Ben Ocen all missing from 12 yards.

Kataka’s penalties were scored by Makas Aka, Muhammed Biafula and Ali Sentamu.

Kataka finished the game with 10 men after Emmanuel Kulanga was sent off with two minutes to play in extra-time following a wild lunge onto Reagan Male.

At the round of 16 stage, Kataka eliminated URA also in post-match penalties at the Hamz stadium (Nakivubo war memorial grounds).

Kataka joins the already qualified clubs to the semi-finals as KCCA, Vipers and the current holders Kitara.

The winner of the Uganda Cup earns a ticket to represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.

Reactions:

It is painful that we are eliminated in such a manner during a game that we dominated. We did not kill off the game during normal play and with penalties, the team with luck wins. Our focus now turns to the league and finish strongly.

Mathias “Salongo” Lule, Head coach Police Football Club

I am overwhelmed for this feat of qualifying to the semi-finals in the Stanbic Uganda Cup. The attention now is to make it to the finals and win it. I salute the effort of the players, technical staff and club management. I am so happy.

Godfrey Toldo Awachango, Head coach Kataka Football Club
