UCU Lady Canons secured a commanding 81-47 victory over the Nkumba Lady Marines in a National Basketball League game held at the YMCA Court in Wandegeya on Monday.
The Lady Canons got off to a strong start, closing the first quarter with an 11-point lead (20-9). By halftime, they had stretched the advantage to 25 points, setting the tone for a dominant performance.
Sharifa Nalwadda’s three-pointer at the buzzer wrapped up the third period, giving the Lady Canons a commanding 35-point cushion heading into the final quarter.
With the win virtually sealed, the Canons’ coaching staff rotated the lineup, giving rookies a chance to gain valuable minutes on the court. Despite the changes, the Lady Marines were unable to mount a comeback, eventually falling by 34 points.
Sylivia Nakituuka led the scoring for the Lady Canons with 17 points, followed closely by Matrina Anyango with 16 and Hajjara Najjuko with 10.
For the Lady Marines, Mellisa Kyazze Namboowa was the lone bright spot, finishing with 19 points the only player on her team to score in double figures.
The victory lifts the Lady Canons to fourth place in the 12-team standings, while the Lady Marines remain in eighth.
