Nemostars suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to Algeria’s Castel in a thrilling five-set encounter at the CAVB Men’s Africa Volleyball Club Championship held at Mistara International Sports Hall on Sunday.

The Ugandan side had a slow start, conceding the first set 25-20 as Castel capitalized on early momentum.

Despite their struggles with service errors, the Algerians managed to edge ahead.

Nemostars bounced back in the second set. Under the guidance of head coach Tom Amou, they stormed to an 18-10 lead and held on to level the match with a 25-22 win.

The third set saw a dominant performance from Nemostars, spearheaded by Ecil Esau. The team quickly built a commanding 12-4 lead and cruised to a 25-14 victory, taking a 2-1 lead in sets.

However, Nemostars couldn’t maintain their rhythm. They faltered in the fourth set, narrowly losing 25-23, and were unable to recover in the decider, falling 15-10 to hand Castel the win.

Despite the loss, the coach remains optimistic, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back and make a strong run in the rest of the tournament.

Nemostars clinched the Uganda National Club Championship, securing a spot in the ongoing CAVB Men’s Africa Volleyball Club Championship.
