- Namuwongo Blazers 83-57 JT Jaguars
Namuwongo Blazers tamed rising JT Jaguars in the National Basketball League at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Friday.
The Blazers, who picked a comprehensive 83-57 win, extended their perfect run to four straight wins after beating City Oilers, Victoria University Crocs, JKL Dolphins and now the Jaguars.
The game was closely contested in the first half, with the two sides sharing the opening two quarters. While the Blazers dominated the first 23-14, the Jaguars switched up their defense in the second quarter to limit the Blazers to just 11 points.
The Jaguars, however, lost their defensive mojo in the third quarter while the Blazers stepped up on that end of the court with active hands and moved the ball quicker and better on offense to blow the game open before going into cruise and control in the fourth quarter.
Michael Makiadi made a massive buzzer-beater three-point jump shot as the Blazers completed the first period with a nine-point (23-14) lead.
Despite the Jaguars’ fight in the second period, they went into the long break trailing by two points (34-32).
Coming from the locker rooms, the Blazers hit second gear as they opened a 14-point lead at the end of the period.
Henry Ssebagala converted both throws at 7:40 to extend the lead to 20 points. In response, coach Sudi Ulanga opted for the small ball from that point onwards.
The Blazers held on to secure a massive 26-point victory, making it four wins in as many games.
James Okello (18 points and 11 rebounds) and Makiadi (12 points and 11 rebounds) contributed massively for the Blazers, while only Mark Were (21 points) scored in double digits for the Jaguars
