Egyptian giants Zamelek SC are the winners of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup. The White Knights edged Morocco’s RS Berkane on Sunday to emerge victorious.
Zamelek, home to Ugandan forward Travis Mutyaba had to overturn a 2-1 first leg deficit to clinch the title.
In today’s game played at Cairo International Stadium, the home side secured a 1-0 win thanks to Ahmed Hamdy’s 23rd minute goal.
The goal eventually won the game for Zamelek and consequently brought the trophy home on away goals rule.
RS Berkane ended the game with a player less following the sending off of Hamza El Moussaoui deep in stoppage time.
This is their second CAF Confederation Cup title having won the tournament in the 2018-19 season.
Mutyaba also writes history as the first Ugandan player to win the competition.
