The 2025 National Basketball League season tips off on Friday at Lugogo Indoor Arena, with defending champions City Oilers taking on the Namuwongo Blazers.
City Oilers will be eager to start their title defence on a high note as they aim for their 11th consecutive league title.
However, they will be without key players Titus Lual and Fayed Baale, both sidelined due to minor surgeries.
Additionally, there is uncertainty surrounding captain Ivan Muhwezi’s availability, as he awaits a late fitness test.
Despite his absence, Baale remains confident in his team’s ability to secure victory.
“The team is ready to take on Nam Blazers. We have a talented squad, and we have what it takes to win,” Baale stated.
“I have spoken to the boys, and if they stay focused and play without pressure, I believe City Oilers will come out on top,” he added.
Lual and Baale are expected to return by the end of April, providing City Oilers with additional reinforcements as the season progresses.
The Oilers have strengthened their squad with five new signings during the transfer window, bringing in Edgar Munaaba, Joseph Chuma, Bolton Rujjumba, and Emmanuel Okumu.
On the other hand, the Namuwongo Blazers will unveil their revamped squad for the 2025 season.
Among their key additions are former City Oilers stars Jimmy Enabu, Tonny Drileba, and James Okello.
The Blazers have further bolstered their lineup with Joel Lukoji, Peter Obleng, Henry Ssebagala, and Moses Mugisha, making them a formidable opponent.
With both teams eager to make a statement in the season opener, fans can expect an intense and thrilling encounter at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
