2024-2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup

Round of 16:

  • URA 1 (3) – 1 (5) Kataka
  • Kaaro Karungi 3-0 UPDF

Second division entity Kataka Football Club from Mbale city has stunned Uganda Revenue Authority as they progressed to the quarter finals of the 2024-2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Kataka came from a goal down to eliminate the tax collectors 5-3 in post match penalties after normal time had ended one goal apiece at the Hamz Stadium (Nakivubo war memorial grounds) on Wednesday.

Abraham Tusubira converted an 80th minute penalty to give URA who were missing the services of their head coach Alex Isabirye, the lead.

The joy was however shortlived when Abdulrahman Maloba paid back in the exact same currency – a well struck penalty for the equalizer and to force the game into post match penalties.

This comes as one of the shocking results in this year’s championship since URA are three time champions (2005, 2011-12 and 2013-2014).

Meanwhile, Kaaro Karungi, also a second division club dumped out UPDF 3-0 at the Kyamate Stadium in Ntungamo district.

Kataka and Kaaro Karungi join the other qualified clubs to the quarter final stag as BUL, Police, Sports Club Villa, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and holders Kitara.

KCCA ejected Rwenzori Lions 4-0 at the MTN Omondi stadium – Lugogo, Kitara edged Gaddafi 1-0 at Works playground in Entebbe, BUL hammered West Nile regional side Total 7-0 at the FUFA Technical Center – Njeru as Sports Club Villa won 1-0 away at Lugazi in Najjembe.

On Wednesday night, Vipers take on FUFA Big League side Blacks Power at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

The winner of the Uganda Cup qualifies to earn a slot to play at the CAF Confederation Cup.
