Former Uganda Cranes international Obadiah “Musanvu We’ggwanga” Ssemakula has been admitted at Butabika Hospital, a health facility for the mentally ill persons on Wednesday, 19th March 2025.
With the help of his close family members and officials from the Former Footballers Initiative (FFI), Ssemakula was taken to the Luzira based sports amenity where he is being closely monitored.
He was admitted in one of the wards tagged Kireka Dormitory and put under close supervision by the doctors before the treatment and rehabilitation will commence.

The Former Footballers’ Initiative association, a body that brings together retired footballers of all clusters were ably represented by Edward Baguma and Saul Kizito.
Ssemakula’s sister and a brother Paul Sserunyo were also present.
The development followed abnormal conduct by the former Uganda Cranes star of the 80’s and early 90’s.
“He (Obadiah Ssemakula) is admitted at Butabika Hospital. We are hopeful, he will recover swiftly and be discharged to return home. We are thankful for the Former Footballers’ Inititative for all their efforts. We call upon the football family to assist where possible” the sister cried aloud.
A few years ago, Ssemakula was bed-ridden with Kidney complications before he was treated at Naguru hospital but he since remained weak and in a dire state.

Arguably regarded as the best crosser of the ball, Ssemakula won the Uganda Cup with Coffee Sports Club in 1970 and 1981.
Ssemakula featured for Coffee in over 40 years, and it is reportedly said he was never substituted in his entire life.
He was a darling for his Lugave clan and still holds the record for having featured in the Bika Bya Baganda football competition as the oldest player at 44 years.
Of late, Ssemakula stays in Mpigi and Makindye.
