Uganda Cup: Holders Kitara stage comeback to eliminate Gaddafi

Uganda Cup holders Kitara FC had to dig deep to overcome Gaddafi FC as the two teams faced on Monday.

In the round of 16 encounter played at the Entebbe Works Playground, Kitara FC came from behind to win 2-1.

Tom Kakaire gave Gaddafi FC the lead but goals from Fred Amaku and youngster Johnson Byaruhanga guided the Royals to victory.

Kakaire fired the hosts into the lead in the 17th minute but Kitara were able to level matters ten minutes through Amaku.

In the second half, youngster Byaruhanga who was recently promoted from the Kitara FC junior team was introduced.

He was part of the multiple changes made by coach Wasswa Bbosa in the 58th minute.

Byaruhanga, Arthur Kiggundu and Solomon Okwalinga replaced Rogers Mugisha, Benjamin Nyakoojo and Titus Ssematimba in that order.

Byaruhanga went ahead to score the winner seven minutes later to register his first goal for the team.

Despite efforts from Gaddafi FC in the closing stages of the game, Kitara FC were able to defend resiliently and claim victory.

The Royals are joined by Police FC as the first teams to book their places in the quarterfinals.
