After faltering on the final day of last season, SC Villa will be desperate to avoid similar mistakes when they face NEC on Saturday at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo.
The record winners went into the final day of the 2022/23 season on top but lost 1-0 to URA to hand the advantage to Vipers who defended their title for the first time in history.
With 54 points, Villa is one ahead of both BUL and Vipers and three better than fourth placed Kitara – all teams with a possibility of winning the league should Dusan Stojanovic’s men falter.
Jeans Braddy Wokorach who helped NEC gain promotion last season to the top tier is confident as he takes on former bosses but has urged the fans to push the Blues.
“We very well know the importance of tomorrow’s (Saturday) game,” he told the club website.
“We are aware of the opponent’s abilities but the game tomorrow will be about us, we just have to win it by all means,” he added.
“The fans have been an integral part of this Journey, and I urge them to be available tomorrow.”
At Fufa Technical Centre, Njeru, BUL host local rivals Busoga United, a game both want to win for divergent reasons.
A win for BUL could see them lift their maiden league crown should Villa drop points while victory will ensure Busoga United stays up at the expense of Gaddafi and UPDF who they are battling with in the relegation war.
At. St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende, reigning champions Vipers host tricky Mbarara City aware that they must get three points to stand a chance of defending the title.
However, they will also pray both Villa and BUL don’t win their respective matches.
For Kitara who host relegation candidates Gaddafi, a win coupled with defeats for Villa, BUL and Vipers will see them the title.
For Gaddafi, they must win at the Masindi Municipal stadium and hope BUL does them a favour against Busoga United.
In other fixtures, UPDF target all points against Wakiso Giants at Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium to enlighten survival chances but also pray Busoga fall to BUL.
KCCA make a short trip to Luzira to face hosts Maroons while URA host Soltilo Bright Stars at Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.
