David Owori committed his future to SC Villa by signing a new two-year contract that will keep him at Villa Park until 2027.

The versatile right back who is in his second stint with the 17-time league champions rejoined the club in 2023 and was integral as the Jogoos ended two decades of waiting for the elusive record extending title.

Combined with his first stint between 2018 & 2021, Owori is currently the longest serving and arguably the most experienced player for Morley Byekwaso’s side with a combined five years.

At a club devoid of experience in the playing staff, Owori’s stay is imperative as the team tries to rebuild a force once they were in Ugandan football.

SC Villa was a club known for keeping players for longer periods but it hasn’t been the case in the recent past with almost all excelling players leaving at the end of their contracts.

From Charles Bbaale and Gift Fred to Umar Lutalo, Gavin Kizito and former title winning skipper Kenneth Ssemakula to Hakim Kiwanuka who joined APR albeit for a transfer fee unlike the rest.

With the club resorting to signing rookies more so from their feeder side Wembley in the January transfer window, Owori’s stay is imperative especially given track record of being disciplined and a workaholic.

For now, it is Owori, Ronald Ssekiganda, Meddie Kibirige with the experience to nurture the young squad at Byekwaso’s disposal.
