
Uganda won a couple of medals as the World Athletics U20 Championships got underway on Tuesday in Lima, Peru.
Charity Cherop and Kenneth Kiprop are the athletes who claimed bronze medals in the women’s and men’s 5,000m races respectively on Day One of the championship.
Cherop ran a person best of 15:25.02 while Kiprop crossed the line in 13:41.73 in what was a lung-busting finish.

Meanwhile, in the Women’s 3000m steeplechase, Nancy Chepkwurui and Loice Chekwemoi qualified for the final with the top five best times.
Chepkwurui ran a personal best of 9:49.06 while Chekwemoi qualified with a time of 10:01.85.
In action today
At 8:30 pm, Hosea Chemutai will be competing in Heat 1 of the Men’s 3000m steeplechase.
Jacob Sande will compete in Heat 3 of the Men’s 1500m at 12:10 am (Thursday).
