KIU Titans and Namuwongo Blazers will be looking to take a decisive Playoff semifinal series lead when they face off tonight at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
Blazers won the opening encounter of the five-game series before the Titans drew level on Sunday evening.
In the series opener, the Blazers switched through defenses but most importantly took away KIU’s biggest weapon – transition offense – a few minutes into the opening quarter.
The telepathy between Joel Lukoji the orchestrator of the transition with Kasereka Tembo running to wing and Juff Mpiya through the middle was broken by Stephen Escodata’s charges forcing the Titans to play in the half court and only Peter Obleng thrived off the dribble to the hole.
However, in Game 2, the Titans got their will both in transition as well as the half-court and Julius Lutwama will be hoping his charges replicate the same tonight. Tembo and Lukoji were rolling and Obleng easily glided through the lane not just settling for the jumper.
Defensively, KIU are still vulnerable and lazy in the screens whenever the Blazers try to force isolations or open shots at the top. The Titans barely switch and they might have to explore the option especially if Innocent Ochera finds his shot tonight.
Peter Cheng will have to use every mismatch created while Joseph Chuma needs to shoot better to give the Blazers the threat inside out.
