Morocco and Egypt progressed to the knockout round of men’s football at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics in France.
Egypt edged Spain 2-1 in Group C at the Matmut Atlantique stadium with Canadian referee Drew Fischer in charge
Ibrahim Adel scored a brace for the North Africans with his first goal coming after 40 minutes. The second goal arrived two minutes after the hour mark.
Samuel Omorodion pulled back one goal for Spain on the stroke of full-time.
Egypt qualified for the knockout round undefeated with 7 points. Spain also advanced with 6 points.
Dominican Republic and Uzbekistan ended with 2 and 1 point respectively.
At the Allianz Riviera Stadium, Morocco smiled 3-0 past Iraq to qualify for the knockout round. Amir Richardson, Soufiane Rahimi and Abde Ezzalzouli scored the goals for Morocco.
Morocco now has 6 points, the same as Argentina. Ukraine and Iraq bowed out with 3 points apiece.
Meanwhile, in Group A, Guinea was eliminated after failing to get any points in the three matches.
Hosts France were clinical with 9 out of the possible 9 points with USA also qualifying on 6 points.
