Aziz Abdu Kayondo: Uganda Cranes left back joins Czech Republic top flight club

Uganda Cranes’ left back Aziz Abdu Kayondo has put pen to paper at Czech Republic top tier club, FC Slovan Liberec.

Kayondo was officially unveiled at the 1958 founded club which is based in Liberec city.

“A new era begins. May Allah keep blessing me throughout my journey. FC Slovan Liberec, let’s get started family” an elated Kayondo who signed a four year employment contract expressed.

FC Slovan Liberec is currently managed by Lubos Kozel and hosts their home matches at the U Nisy stadium.

They are ranked among the most successful entities in Czech Republic football with three league titles (2001-2002, 2005-2006 and 2011-2012) and two domestic FA (Czech) cups 1999-2000 and 2014-2015.

They have also played at the European level and reached the final of the UEFA InterToto cup in 2004.

Kayondo has been a free agent after his employment contract at Spanish side CD Leganes expired.

Last season, he played at Czech Republic outfit Městský fotbalový klub Vyškov, still on loan.

Since leaving Vipers in 2021, Kayondo has featured at CD Leganes (Spain), Městský fotbalový klub Vyškov (Czech Republic), Real Monarchs (United States of America), Leganes B (Spain) and Hapoel Tel Aviv (Israel).

For the national team, he has earned 12 international caps to his name thus far with one goal scored.

He was recently part of the Uganda Cranes in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Botswana Zebras and Algeria Desert Foxes at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Kayondo becomes the third African to join the club’s rooster that also has Benjamin Nyarko (Ghana) and Ahmad Ghali (Nigeria).

Kayondo is known for his philanthropic heart where he has generously donated to his home people of Kyazanga in Masaka city, central Uganda.

Through the annual Azizi Kayondo Eid cup, Kayondo donates playing gear as jerseys, balls, boots, sockings and as well as items like trophies, medals, bulls, goats and cash.
