The Rugby 7s Repechage, a final qualification pathway to the Olympic Games, is designed for those nations which narrowly missed out on the 7s World Series and the regional (continental) championships. Not for those nations for whom the competition was simply too stiff.
Unfortunately for Uganda, both the men’s and women’s national 7s teams were in the latter classification.
The men lost to South Africa at the semifinal stage during the 2023 Africa Men’s 7s in Harare, Zimbabwe in September. The women lost to Kenya at the semifinal stage during the 2023 Africa Women’s 7s in Monastir, Tunisia in October. This diverted both teams to the Rugby 7s Repechage in Monaco that was being played a month prior to the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

As fate would have it, Uganda did not go past the quarterfinals in the Repechage. Both teams were knocked out of contention in quick fashion on the morning of the final round.
Czechia stunned the women by 22-00 points and South Africa dispatched the men by 26-00.
That marked the climax of the women’s 2023-24 season after eight months on the grind.
The men fell short, yet again, in their quest for a maiden Olympic Games appearance. They will immediately put the incredibly poor performance behind them as they embark on the 2024-25 season with the Africa 7s in Mauritius next weekend.
