
The World Badminton Federation (WBF) is one of those global sporting bodies with clear objectives of developing the diligent human resource associated in the sport.
Players, administrators, coaches, umpires and other personnel who serve the sport are often equipped with knowledge and key skills to meet the international standards.
The latest BWF level two coaching course happening at the Indoor Arena in Lugogo, Kampala city in Uganda is testament to the aforementioned.
Renowned instructor Daje Annirao from Mauritius is steering this week-long expansive course that has both theory and practical sessions.


The representatives are from the eight different African countries as Lesotho, Benin, Djibouti, Botswana, Nigeria, Egypt, Zambia and the hosts, Uganda.
Uganda has the lion’s share of coaches with five; Lizzy Nambuya, Fatimah Nabirungi, Godfrey Kivumbi, Hellen Luzika and Frank Muwuluzi.
Egypt and Nigeria have three coaches apiece with the rest of the countries sending in two coaches each.
The BWF level 2 course is more advanced than level 1. There are lots of aspects in the game covered in both theory and practice. Every participant has to complete a WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) online module which forms part of the assessment for coach level 2. There will be certificates to the successful coaches.

Simon Mugabi, the Uganda Badminton Association Chief executive officer hints that this course is very vital for Uganda as many qualified coaches will be granted the opportunity to train professional badminton in other countries.
Egypt’s Ahmed Saleh, an active player on the national team is also part of the delegation from the North African country.
This course will climax on the 27th June 2028 and the successful coaches will be given certificates.
At present situation, Uganda has six coaches with BWF level two certification.
These include the UBA president Annet Nakamya, national head coach William Kabindi, Ivan Kalimunda, Betty Apio, Ronald Lule and Edwin Masiko.
