The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers across Africa continued on Monday with some shocking results leaving many groups wide open.

In Group G, Botswana beat minnows Somalia 3-1 to join Uganda and Guinea on six points.

Both Uganda and Guinea were beaten at home by Algeria and Mozambique respectively.

Travis Mutyaba gave the Cranes an early lead but second half goals from Hossam Aouar and Said Benrahma saw the Desert Foxes return to winning ways and move top with 9 points.

Mozambique also moved joint top thanks to a late Geny Catamo penalty to stun Guinea which had shocked group favourites Algeria on match day three.

In Group I, Crystal Palace star Jordan Ayew scored a hattrick to earn hosts Ghana a 4-3 win over Central African Republic and moved top with nine points, three better than Madagascar who take on Mali on Tuesday.

Louis Mafuta also netted a treble for the visitors but it counted for nothing.

Giants Nigeria suffered another setback after losing a goal lead in the 2-1 defeat to Benin coached by their former coach Gernot Rohr.

With four matches, Nigeria have only three points, three adrift of Group C leaders Benin and the gap could widen to four if Lesotho beat Rwanda.

Mohamed Salah scored an equaliser against Guinea Bissau in a 1-1 draw that keeps them top of Group A with 10 points and Burkina Faso played to a 2-2 draw with Sierra Leone in the same group.

Elsewhere, Equatorial Guinea beat Malawi 1-0 in Group H.

The nine group winners will qualify for the expanded 2026 World Cup, while a 10th African side could reach the finals in the United States, Mexico and Canada via an intercontinental tournament.

The fourth round of matches comes to conclusion on Tuesday, after which the qualifiers will resume again in March next year.
