
2024 Korea Ambassador’s Cup (Taekwondo):
- Overall winners: Uganda Police Taekwondo Club (10 Gold, 5 Silver, 9 Bronze)
- 2nd: Uganda Prisons Taekwondo Club (6 Gold, 2 Silver, 4 Bronze)
- 3rd: Regional Kenya Taekwondo Club (4 Gold, 6 Silver, 4 Bronze)
- 4th: Ragumo Kenya Taekwondo Club (2 Gold)
Uganda Police Taekwondo Club successfully defended their overall title during the 2024 Korea Ambassador’s cup held at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, Kampala over the weekend of Saturday, June 1st and on the subsequent day.
The victors amassed a total of 10 gold medals, 5 silver and 9 bronze medals.

Uganda Police’s trio of Farouk Ogwal (54 kg), Richard Tabule (58 kg) and Cranima Wakurwoth (63 kg) championed their respective weight categories in the senior men cluster.
Uganda Prisons Taekwondo club came second with 6 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze.
Regional Kenya and Ragumo Kenya were third and fourth respectively.

A total of 25 clubs in Uganda and Kenya took part in this two day’s event sponsored by the Embassy of Korea in Uganda.
Uganda’s 19 clubs included the champions Uganda Police, Uganda Prisons, CSCA, Caltel, Lee, Red Scorpion, Nwoya, Ndejje University, MUTC-UPDF, Kampala, Tigerhoods, Gulu University, Friends, IYF, Makerere University, Mbale, Spirit Combat and Jinja.
The traveling six Kenyan teams were Regional, Ragumo Kisumu, Maseno University, Swift Kicks, ICY Kenya and Madera.

The official opening ceremony was witnessed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea His Excellency Park Sung Soo.
He was joined by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) member William Blick, President Uganda Olympic Committee Dr Donald Rukare, President Uganda Archery Federation Markbone Richard Asiimwe, President Uganda Taekwondo Federation (UTF) Marvin Baryaruha and his vice Ismail Bumba, Senior Superintendent of Police Rita, National Council of Sports representative Ivan Mugowa, Consult of the Republic Of South Korea, President Gymnastic Uganda Harriet Ayaa, Uganda Olympic Committee General Secretary Beatrice Ayikoru, Chairman Board of Trustees Jack Wavamuno, among others.


Among others quest honorable, councilors, religious leaders, where the IOC member and President Uganda Olympic committee promised to work hands in hands with Uganda taekwondo federation to ensure that an electronic score system is acquired with the IOC president to Improve our athletes score system.
The Ambassador H.E Park Soo promised to improve the greatness of the Taekwondo Sports in Uganda and bring in more masters in Uganda to develop competitive taekwondo practitioners.
I give my thanks to the Uganda Taekwondo Federation. I would also like to express gratitude for the dedication and contribution of Taekwondo coaches from the different parts of the country and the players. The tournament has since 2017 become a wonderful platform to showcase the Ugandan people’s love and passion for Taekwondo. Now, Taekwondo serves as an art and a means of connecting the people of Korea and bring them together in Uganda. Through Taekwondo, Ugandans and Koreans are getting much closer everyday, every month and every year. I am hopeful that this Taekwondo boom spreads from the Ugandan military further to the entire country.

This was the 9th edition of Korean Ambassadors cup with 250 athletes taking part in the championship.
These included 131 seniors men, 33 seniors female, 65 juniors boys and 21 juniors girls.
The Embassy of Korea in Uganda also organized a successful K-Pop festival at the Yusuf Lule Auditorium in Makerere University; involving music, dance and Korea language speaking competition.
