NIC Netball Club is off to Zanzibar ahead of the 2025 East African Netball Club Championship that throws off this weekend.
Uganda’s most successful netball side heads into the regional tournament with ambitions of defending the crown they won last year in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
NIC team manager and Netball Uganda president Jocelyn Ucanda voiced confidence in the side’s ability to retain the title.
“NIC Netball Club is a team of winners. We have the best squad and no wonder the national team, She Cranes, comprises mostly of players from NIC,” Ucanda said as quoted by The SportsNation.
“There is good facilitation, players are paid on time, well taken care of, and therefore, [there is] no excuse for not winning.
“These players are fueled to win, and the target is to defend the title.”

A 12-player squad to make the trip has, among others, She Cranes midcourt star Margaret Baagala, veteran Goal Attack Rachael Nanyonga as well as defenders Sandra Nambirige, Gloria Aya and Nassim Mutesi.
Ucanda pointed out the pro netballers who have gone through NIC’s setup, saying they are an inspiration to the current players.
“Peace Proscovia, Mary Nuba, and Stella Oyella have all come from NIC and gone on to play professional netball abroad. The current players are motivated, they’ve seen what their predecessors have achieved, and they believe they too can follow the same path.”
Uganda Prisons, runners up last year, and KCCA Netball Club will also compteete aat the regional event while the men’s competition will feature usual suspects Kampala University and WOB.
