Record winners Jinja SS moved top of Group A at the Girls Schools Cricket Week with a commanding 167-run win against newcomers Nyakasura School.
Jinja SS leapfrogged Masaka SS to go top and will be certain of at least a semifinal place when the group games end tomorrow.
Defending Champions Light SS were able to grind out a win against a determined Iganga SS but in a low-scoring game that was the highlight of Matchday 5, with the defending champions showing grit and steel to defend a lowly 37 runs.
Light SS remains in third place but with an outside chance of sneaking into the semifinals, in case Masaka SS and Jinja SS slip up. They will take on Jinja SS in their final group game, which is the highlight of Matchday 6.

In Group B, Olila High has secured their semifinal spot and they should be joined by the home side Sacred Heart SS in the semifinals. The two sides are still unbeaten in the tournament and Sacred Heart has been able to go through with some fortune along the way.
Newcomers Mt St Henry’s SS Mukono picked up their second win of the tournament against the hosts Gulu High School. In Group B, Good Heart SS is the only side that has not been able to win a game in the tournament so far.
Iganga SS recovered from a heartbreaking loss to Light SS in the morning and picked up their third win of the tournament against a very determined Mt Rwenzori Girls. Ruth Muwanga made up for some lost time in the morning game with a match-winning knock of 47. Iganga SS remain in fourth place behind Light SS in third place; their chances of reaching the semifinals were undone by the loss to Light SS in the morning game.
The Group games will conclude tomorrow before the semifinals and finals on Saturday.
