Mike Mukula Jr is optimistic of securing victory in the Africa rally championship round in Mbarara to kick off his bid for the ARC2 category title.
The Pearl rally is the second round of the Africa rally championship and it is slated for 9-11 May in Western Uganda.
The Ugandan is the reigning ARC2 champion and he is focused to regain the title.
“I want to make a repeat of last year’s Pearl by winning the ARC2 category.”
“My focus is to fight for this championship which means we did not come to participate but to win.” Said Mukula.

Mukula is expected to face off with crews including two-time national rally champion champion Susan Muwonge, Moustapha Mukasa, Aine Sodo, Tanzania’s Prince Nyerere among others.
Mukula enters the Pearl well boosted by sponsorship from KCB Bank.
“The sponsorship came with a big push. Clearly, we must have done something right last year and that motivated KCB to renew our partnership.”
“They have so much trust in me and I have to make it up to them with a good performance in top positions,” he said.

Mukula is also in contention for this year’s national title. He currently stand third behind Ponsiano Lwakataka.
“I am in a good position to still fight for this NRC title. Ponsiano has been consistent but I would not say he has been so far from us pace-wise. We have always been close.”
“In Mbarara, we want to finish on top of ARC and top spot in NRC category. And we shall fight to the end,” he asserted.
Mukula will partner with Siraj Kyambadde in the Subaru Impreza N14.
The Pearl of Africa rally will run for three days starting with the qualifying stage and shakedown on Thursday 8 May.
Rally will start proper on Friday with three stages including a super special stage at the Rukaari Resort.
