The Uganda Women’s National Basketball Team, the Gazelles, have discovered their group stage opponents for the upcoming 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket tournament.
The draw took place during a ceremony held at Hotel des Armées in Abidjan on Wednesday evening.
Uganda will compete in Group C alongside Senegal and Guinea. The championship is scheduled to run from July 26 to August 3.
The Gazelles secured their spot at the continental showpiece following a dominant 74-63 victory over Egypt in the Zone V Qualifiers.
Zone V will be represented by three teams at the tournament, as both Egypt and South Sudan, who are making their debut, received wildcard entries.
Group A includes hosts Ivory Coast, Angola, and Egypt. Group B features Mali, Cameroon, and neighbours South Sudan. Reigning champions Nigeria headline Group D, joined by Rwanda and Mozambique.
According to the tournament format, the winners of each group will advance directly to the quarterfinals.
Teams finishing second and third in their groups will play in a qualifying round, with the winners also progressing to the last eight.
