Cwinya-ai establishes 2-stroke lead as 2025 President’s Cup tees off

Joseph Cwinya-ai commands the lead after an impressive 1-under-71 gross score during the opening round of the 2025 President Cup at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa course.

The national team captain scored 37 on the front and improved to 34 at the back side of the course that is decimated by numerous water hazards.

Another Joseph entity in Kasozi is two strokes off the leader after scoring 1-over-73 on day one.

The trio of Pius Omara, Joseph Reagan Akena and Shashank Gadre all shot 3-over-74 as they tie third.

Godfrey Kambale (75), Andrew Ssekibejja (75), Ibrahim Bagalana (76), Ibrahim Ssemakula (76), Abdallah Kakooza (76) and Ivan James Sekulima (76) occupy the top 11 positions.

16 golfers made the day one cut out of the 33 who played in this division.

Meanwhile, Peace Kabasweka is ahead of all the ladies after round one.

Kabasweka played 77 gross, a stroke better than Martha Babirye.

Long hitting Meron Kyomugisha (80), Gloria Mbaguta (83), Harsshitha Loganathan (83) are all in the top five.

Four ladies missed the day one cut.

On the morning of Thursday, 24th April 2024 will be the round of 16 contest for both men as the ladies will play the quarter finals.

The men’s quarter-finals and the semi-finals for ladies will follow suit.
