Badminton ace Ekiring donates sports gear to Sharing Badminton Club

Uganda’s celebrated badminton player Edwin “Black Pearl” Ekiring, 41, is one gentleman who has never forgotten his humble beginning and background.

Currently based in the Netherlands for the past two decades, Ekiring has always extended a helping hand to people in his native country, Uganda.

Ekiring’s latest kind gesture is a donation of an assortment of sports gear to Sharing Badminton Club, his mother entity.

Some of the equipment donated includes rackets, shuttles, boots, shorts, shirts and bags.

“I have always wished to offer a helping hand to the budding talent. The same way I was help to develop as a player is the same way I want to help” Ekiring revealed.

Ekiring asserts the youngsters have to remain focused with commitment and discipline in order to perform to grow professionally and execute service at the highest level.

“Hardworking is key but commitment and discipline for young players are also important components in the career path journey. Players have to have the discipline to keep time, train well and regularly and follow the demands of the game” he cautions.

The badminton star player who is a member of BC Europeen club in Luxemborg made a courtesy visit to his mother country in company of two long term friends Lloyd ad Giorgio Van Zaalen.

Both Llyod and Giorgio are on their first ever visit to Africa and Uganda in particular.

The duo will have a guided tour around the different places in Uganda as they appreciate the wonder nature of the country.

Ekiring boosts of three medals at the All African Games (a silver and two bronze) and two bronze medals at the African championships.

He competed at the 2012 summer Olympics in London as well as the 2014 Commonwealth games (Glasgow, Scotland).

Over the years, he competed in different BWF international challenge meets in various countries with 7 titles to his name and 7 runners up accolades.
