The 2024 CAF African schools football championship will take center stage on the islands of Zanzibar (21st to 25th May) at the Amman Stadium.
Uganda is among the participating countries set to take part in this tournament for either gender in the U-15 age category.
The girls are pooled in group B alongside South Africa, Togo and The Gambia.
Uganda’s delegation is constituted of players from Kawempe Muslim Secondary School and was officially flagged off last Friday at the National Council of Sports Copper Chimney Restaurant in Lugogo.
Skipper Shadia Nabirye leads the cast of the players on the team with others being goalkeeper Hudah Ayikoru, Tracy Nabaranzi, Cythnia Kirenga and Hairah Nabbosa, among others.
Dr Rev Canon Duncans Mugumya, the commissioner of physical education and sports urged the players to gallantly represent the country and die alittle for the flag.
“You are traveling as team Uganda. Play with your hearts out and represent the country well” Dr Rev Can. Mugumya called.
The team traveled by Uganda Airlines and is accomodated at Madinat Al Bahr Hotel.
In group A; it is Tanzania, Morocco and Congo Republic.
Boys:
For the boys, Uganda is drawn in group A with Tanzania and Senegal. Group B has South Africa, Benin, Guinea and Libya.
Hefty prize money:
The champions of either gender will take home $ 300 000 prize money, a trophy and gold medals.
Each of the runners-up shall take home $ 200 000 and silver medals whilst the bronze medalists will pocket $150,000 each.
