Kajoba finally laid to rest in Kiwawu as thousands pay glowing tributes

Former Uganda Cranes player and goalkeeping coach Fred Kajoba Kisitu was finally laid to rest at Busenya – Kiwawu village in Mityana district on Sunday, 19th May 2024.

Kajoba had died on 13th May 2024 in a health dispensary found in Mbeya city, Southern Tanzania after suffering a blood clot and respiratory difficulties.

Different people from varying walks of life paid glowing tributes to the former Coffee, Simba (UPDF) , Ffumbe clan and Uganda Cranes goalkeeper during prayers at the country home in Kiwawu.

The chief celebrant of the mass at the burial ceremony Rev Father Lazarous Kiggundu urged the mourners to emulate the legacy set by the late Kajoba.

“We pray for the family of the late Kajoba to remain strong. He was a religious gentleman who loved Holy Mary to the dot. He did not at any one moment shy away from loving Holy Mary” Rev. Father Kiggundu preached to the mourners under sunny conditions.

The chief mourner was the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among, who was ably represented by the Mityana South Member of Parliament Hon. Richard Lumu.

Among contributed a handsome condolence fee worth Ug.Shs 5,000,000 in cash as she urged the family of the deceased to remain strong in such a trying moment.

“We have missed a very resourceful and dedicated person in Fred Kajoba. He was also God fearing and loved to serve the Lord. May the Almighty strengthen the family members” Rt Hon. Among stated in a speech read by Hon. Lumu.

The FUFA president Hon. Moses Magogo who was flanked by members of the FUFA executive committee and secretariat, active and retired football players as well as the entire football family expressed total shock by the untimely death of Kajoba.

In a special way, he lauded Kajoba for wise investment from the resources earned as he promised to let the doors remain opened for the family members.

“I was shocked by the death of Fred Kajoba” Magogo remarked hours after return from the FIFA Congress in Thailand.

“Besides the complications he got in 2018 upon return from Burkina Faso, Kajoba has been healthy. He wisely utilized the monies he earned from work and this should be an example to many. As FUFA, the doors are wide open for the family members where need will arise” Magogo added.

There were different speeches from many parties as Kajoba’s wife; his sons and daughters, Ffumbe Clan members, retired footballers under different groups, his Tanzanian club (Ihefu), friends, in-laws and many others.

“My husband was such a loving gentleman. We met when I was young and we gradually bonded. He loved to pray and worked so hard for our well-being. I will dearly miss him” Jacqueline Kajoba remarked with tears rolling down the cheeks.

Kajoba set a precedent as one of the longest staff for the Uganda Cranes having served as the goalkeeping trainer for 16 years.

He had also coached different clubs as Soltilo Bright Stars, Vipers and lately Ihefu in Tanzania.

Kajoba was born on 5th May 1969. Ironically, he also died in the month of May, on 13th 2024.

He is survived by 8 off-springs and a widow, Jacqueline Kajoba.
