Emerald and Sapphire are joint top after the first round of the BatBall Maxx tournament.
Rain affected matches on Day 3 of the tournament with the game between Ruby and Gold completely washed out and only the game between the table leaders Sapphire and Emerald was possible.
The opening pair of Hamu Kayondo (65) and Didier Ndikwibimana (48) put on an opening stand of 108 runs and that anchored the run-scoring for Sapphire who collectively put together 149/3 in their 18 overs.
In the run chase, Captain Simon Ssesazi (51) and the informed Ronald Lutaaya (46) pushed the initiative but the run chase ran out of resources with 18 runs still required for the victory.
The win put Sapphire on the same number of points as Emerald but with the latter claiming top spot due to a better Net Run Rate.
Gold lit up Matchday 1 with a strong win against Sapphire but a heavy defeat on Matchday 2 against Emerald pegged them back and the abandoned game against Gold left them playing catch-up in third place.
Ruby is playing catch-up with the rest as they are rooted at the bottom of the league without a win and their only point is from the abandoned game against Gold. Fred Achellam and his troops will need a strong second round if they are going to make it to the final.
The action returns on Tuesday, March 8 for the start of the second round.
