2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers
First Round, Return Leg
Ethiopia vs Uganda
26th February 2025| 3PM EAT
Abebe Bekila Stadium
Uganda will hope to keep the hopes of qualifying for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations alive as they take on Ethiopia on Wednesday.
The two teams faced off in the return leg of the first round qualification phase at Abebe Bekila Stadium in Addis Ababa today.
It should be noted that the Crested Cranes of Uganda won the reverse fixture 2-0 courtesy of stoppage-time goals by Zaina Namuleme and Fazila Ikwaput.
Uganda’s coach Sheryl Botes Ulanda believes her charges are ready for the task ahead and cautions them against complacency.
“We have prepared well and the players are ready for the game against Ethiopia. I have been talking to the players, not allowing complacency to kick in. We could have won 2-0 at home but this contest is far from over.” She said.
Crested Cranes travelled to Ethiopia without two key players who started in the home game last week.
Goalkeeper Ruth Aturo ended the game struggling with an injury and was eventually ruled out of today’s tie.
Defender Bridget Nabisaalu limped off in the 28th minute and she did not travel as well.
In their absence, Daisy Nakaziro is expected to start in goal while Phiona Nabulime who replaced Nabisaalu is expected to partner Aisha Nantongo at the heart of defence.
The winner on aggregate between Uganda and Ethiopia will face either Tanzania or Equatorial Guinea at the final qualification hurdle in October.
