
The champagne is on the ice prior to the grand opening of Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium.
On 1st June 2024, it will be euphoria around central Kampala city as the renovated sports facility will be officially opened for public use.
Two football matches, a kickboxing bout and a boxing contest have been lined up to spice up the day as test sports activities.
A football double header between crowd darling Kitara and Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) as well as traditional rivals Express and Sports Club Villa will consistute the football menu.

The Kitara versus URA contest will be the early kick off at 4:00 PM before Express and SC Villa will play later under floodlights.
There is a kickboxing bout the legendary motor-mouthed Moses “Of Uganda” Golola and Umar Semata as well as a professional boxing contest between Isaac Zebra Ssenyange and Ibrahim Kitaka.


Behind the scenes, there are great preparations being undertaken to have tranquil meg opening.
These range from pre-organization customs, routine security and safety precautions, easy access of the facility and others.
Last month, President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta commissioned the Nakivubo war memorial stadium that was renovated by business mogul Hamis “Ham” Kiggundu.

President Museveni’s commissioning had followed an earlier visit by the first lady as well as the Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni.
The stadium has been under renovation since 2017 with a massive face-lift that entails an all-seater facility, VIP executive box, a newly laid astro turf, lavish dressing rooms, a modern fullyy stocked gym, boxing docket, netball courts, basketball court, boxing arena and state-of-art floodlights.
Nakivubo War memorial stadium is now a 25,000 seater facility that will be able to host domestic and international sporting events.
