Nemostars Volleyball Club delivered a commanding 3-0 victory against defending champions Sport-S in the National Volleyball League on Sunday evening at the Indoor Arena, Lugogo.
From the very start, Nemostars asserted their dominance, overwhelming Sport-S both physically and mentally. Lacking confidence, Sport-S struggled to find their rhythm against an opponent determined to take control.
Nemostars took an early lead, securing the first set with a four-point margin (25-21). Both teams had difficulties in reception, gifting each other nine points through service errors.
Determined to maintain their momentum, Nemostars pressed on in the second set, widening the gap to claim it 25-18. The third set followed a similar script, with Nemostars sealing the victory at 25-21 to complete a clean sweep.
A Winning Mentality
Nemostars captain George Aporu attributed the victory to their unwavering mindset and preparation.
“It was a well-earned win for us. We came into the game with a winning mentality because we wanted to take it home,” Aporu stated.
He emphasized that the triumph boosts their confidence ahead of the upcoming Zone V tournament and Africa Club Championships.
“This victory gives us a good feeling as we prepare for the challenges ahead. Sport-S gave us a tough match, but we are happy with our performance and will keep working hard,” he added.
A Tactical Approach
Aware of Sport-S’s strengths, Nemostars executed their game plan flawlessly. Their priority was securing the opening set knowing that allowing their opponents any momentum could turn the tide of the match.
“We needed to win the first set more than any other because we knew that if they got a foothold, they could become a problem. So, we pushed hard in the first two sets to gain control and then finished the job in the third,” Aporu explained.
Libero Brian Musinguzi was instrumental in defense, showcasing exceptional skills in receiving powerful spikes, handling tricky serves, and making crucial digs. Musinguzi played a key role in keeping Nemostars in control.
With this dominant performance, Nemostars send a strong message to the rest of the league after ending the defending champions’ unbeaten run.
