51st Stanbic Uganda Cup (Round of 64):

  • Football Classroom 1-2 Buhimba United Saints
  • Odramachako 2-0 Paidha Black Angels
  • Kuluva Rainbow 2-0 MYDA
  • Busia Young Stars 1 (5) – 1 (4) Kiyinda Boys
  • Karuguuza United 1 (4) – 1 (5) Kaaro Karungi

Yes! This was the affirmative answer at the Yes Sports Arena in Nsambya as FUFA Big entity Buhimba United Saints Football Club progressed to the round of 32 of the 51st Stanbic Uganda Cup on Saturday, 25th January 2025.

Football Classroom, a non-league side composed of football administrators, active and retired footballers and referees, journalists as well as well-wishers broke the tip of the ice-berg with the lead.

The opening stanza had borne no fruits per side with Davis Kakaire and skipper Martin Opolot shooting over from over 20 yards as Derrick Byabachwezi missed a seater inside the goal area.

Football Classroom forwards Bright Adoa, Steven Yiga and Ashraf Kigozi kept pushing for a break-through though the opposition was steady and water-tight.

Workaholic midfielder Fred Atuhwera dictated the tempo in central midfield alongside Ivan Mutebi as veteran former Uganda Cranes international Mike Sserumaga perfected the long balls.

Five minutes after the start of the second half, Football Classroom took the lead through an own-headed goal by Reagan Kunya over his goalkeeper Moses Ayebale following a goal melee.

The lead only lasted for eight minutes as the visitors equalized through Job Owori who struck past goalkeeper Godwin Buule from an acute angle.

Buule was called upon to thwart a goal scoring moment from substitute Lucas Mola after the Congolese national had been played through by Yunus Sibira.

In the 64th minute, another subsistute for Buhimba United Saints Hassan Kikoyo raced to the by-line and delivered a pin-point cross that was powerfully headed home by Mola for the visitor’s second goal.

Buhimba United Saints remained dominant with captain Martin Opolot razing off a free kick from 25 yards.

Moments later, Football Classroom missed the opportunity to equalize the game when Steven Yiga headed from close range after Habib Kavuma’s teasing cross from the left.

With 12 minutes to play, Buhimba United Saints’ tricky winger Patrick Sserunjogi forced Buule to save and Mola blasted over a golden opportunity inside the goal area after being set up by Sserunjogi deep in the 7 added minutes.

Meanwhile, Odramachako defeated Paidha Black Angels 2-0, the same score that MYDA lost to Kuluva Rainbow.

Busia Young Stars won 5-4 in post-match penalties over Kiyinda Boys after normal time had ended 1-all.

Karuguuza United lost 4-5 in post-match penalties to Kaaro Karungi when normal time was all square 1-goal apiece.

Marched to round of 32:

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Rwenzori Lions, Bugoigo Leopards, Mabira TC, Total, current cup holders Kitara, 10 time champions Express, 9 time winners Sports Club Villa, Express, BUL, Vipers, Simba, CATDA, Pakwach Young Stars, Police, Mbarara City, Lugazi Football Club, Wakiso Giants, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF), Maroons, Soltilo Bright Stars, Gaddafi and last year’s losing finalists NEC the other clubs to the round of 32.

Bushenyi Veterans and Blacks Power could also book their berths to the round of 32 via boardroom decisions after their respective opponents failed to honour their games.

Onduparaka failed to travel to Bushenyi for their contest against Bushenyi Veterans whilst Blacks Power reported to Soroti for their match with Soroti Thunders who turned up at another venue.

The winner of the Stanbic Uganda Cup qualifies to represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.
