Corporate Social Responsibility: Uganda futsal clubs, sports community unite to support menstrual hygiene initiative

A dozen clubs plying the betPawa futsal super league and various sports personalities collectively contributed a substantial quantity of sanitary pads to the Miss Tourism Mawokota (MTM) Foundation.

The partnership between the futsal clubs, sports community and Miss Tourism Mawokota Foundation represents a significant step towards achieving this vision and promoting a more equitable and supportive community for girls and women in Mawokota county.

During the official handover, Miss Tourism Mawokota Foundation was represented by Hajji Isa Nsereko Musoke, the Head of Corporate affairs, communication and branding.

Futsal Association Uganda (FAU) Executive Committee member Qulthum Najjuma in company with club representatives Kareem Lakhan (Mengo City CEO), Kisenyi FC Director Omarios and Kabowa Dream Team CEO Ernest Kalanzi joined the ceremony.

This generous contribution is targeted to boost the foundation’s efforts in promoting menstrual hygiene management, safety, and awareness among vulnerable girls in Mawokota county.

This Sunday, 26th January 2025, these donated pads (over 10,000 pads) will be distributed to the Kyewanise Village, Kituuntu Sub-County in Mpigi district, where they will provide essential support to girls in need.

Along with the pads’ distribution will entail educational sessions on menstrual health, hygiene, and self-care.

The personal hygiene emphasized stresses the use of safe and clear water, changing of pads regularly at least 4 hours for those with heavy flow and six hours for ones with light flow as well as avoiding self-medication.

Over 10,000 pads will be donated to the vulnerable girl child (with a total target of 250 girls) at an event where former legislator Hon. Suzan Nakawuuki will be the chief guest, joined by the Mayor Buwama Town council Abdul Rashid Nkinga, among other local leaders.

The Miss Tourism Mawokota (MTM) Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to the well-being of girls and women in Mawokota county, was officially launched in October 2024.

The foundation envisions a world where every girl can access education, healthcare, and essential resources without facing unnecessary barriers or stigma during menstruation.

By advocating for the distribution of free sanitary pads to schools, the MTM Foundation seeks to ensure that all school-going children can attend classes with dignity and confidence, unaffected by the challenges of menstruation.

Meanwhile; a cross section of other sports personalities have also contributed towards this noble cause to include the public relations officer of Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Ahmed Hussein with Ug.Shs 540,000; Youth football delegate Kiwanuka (100,000)/=, Red Rhinos director Obal Atubo (100,000/=), female sports journalists Peace Diane (98,000/=) and Regina Nalujja (10,000/=), Daily Monitor’s Marktum Muziransa (40,000/=), Abel Omong (50,000/=), Bana Swaibu (45,000), Robert Lubega (10,000/-), Swaibu Mbuga (24,000/), Referee Kasolo Kayima (25,000), among others.
