Ugandan midfielder Joan Nabirye has left Russian outfit Spartak Moscow after just one season.

The defensive midfielder who features for the Crested Cranes agreed to terminate her contract with Spartak Moscow.

“ZFK Spartak and midfielder Joan Nabirye have terminated the contract by agreement of both parties,” reads the club statement.

Nabirye signed a two-year deal in January last year and had a relatively good start in Russia.

However, as the season went by, Nabirye failed to command a starting place on the team, especially in the second round.

Before joining Spartak Moscow, Nabirye played for FK Minsk in Belarus. In Uganda, she played for Kampala Queens FC and Gafford Ladies but also had a stint at Kenya’s Vihiga Queens FC.

Until her departure, Nabirye was the second Ugandan female footballer to feature in the Russian Women Super League, joining Fauzia Najjemba who features for Dynamo Moscow FC.
